More than 80% of investors lose in spread bet and CFD trading. As these complex instruments allow for the use of leverage, there is a high risk of losing more money than you have deposited. Before attempting to participate in spread bets and CFDs, consider how well you understand them and if you can afford to lose your money.

AvaTrade platform overview

AvaTrade is a forex and CFD broker with an FSRA-regulated company in Abu Dhabi Global Market. We tested it with our own money in August 2026: dirhams in from a UAE bank, a EUR/USD trade, dirhams back out, and a look through the iPhone app.

The money moved through local accounts, at the dollar peg both ways. What we couldn't confirm is which AvaTrade company holds a UAE client's account. And every share and ETF is a CFD, so you never own them.

Our expert verdict

AvaTrade handled the practical side of our test well. Our dirham deposit was credited the next day at the peg. A 0.01-lot EUR/USD trade filled within seconds at the 0.8-pip spread the ticket showed. Our withdrawal reached a UAE bank the same day, with no fee on either leg.

Two things hold it back. The ticket showed 1:400 leverage, far above retail caps elsewhere, so check the leverage on your own account. And it's a CFD provider: you don't own shares or ETFs, and inactivity fees recur and stack.

For forex and CFDs funded in dirhams, it's a credible all-rounder. For owning shares, it's the wrong product.

What to watch out for

  • Which company holds your account isn't confirmed. Our money went to and came from Ava Trade Middle East Ltd, but AvaTrade's emails name a British Virgin Islands company. Check the company named in your own agreement.
  • 1:400 leverage. That's what our EUR/USD ticket showed, with no professional-client classification visible. The ADGM register attaches unpublished conditions on derivatives sold to retail clients, so we can't say whether 1:400 fits them.
  • Inactivity fees stack. $50 after three months without trading, and every three months after that, plus a $100 annual fee after 12 months, per AvaTrade's fee page.
  • Withdrawal rules. AvaTrade says payouts go back to the original payment method where possible, and that accounts with open positions can't request a withdrawal from Friday to Monday.
  • No AED base currency. Our account was in US dollars, and AED wasn't offered when we started adding a web-platform account. Our dirhams converted at the peg, but AvaTrade warns other currencies "may result in charges for conversion".
  • Spread-only pricing. No raw ECN spreads, so spreads are wider than at raw-spread brokers.
  • Clone firms. Our earlier desk review found warnings from the FCA, CySEC, Belgium's FSMA and Washington DFI about firms using AvaTrade's name. We didn't re-check them for this review. Check the domain before you deposit.

Pros

  • Dirhams in and out through Ava Trade Middle East Ltd, FSRA (ADGM) FSP 190018 (the contracting company isn't confirmed)
  • No fee on our AED deposit or withdrawal, both at the 3.6725 peg
  • Swap-free Islamic account offered (AvaTrade's page; not tested)
  • Wide platform choice, according to AvaTrade: MT4, MT5, WebTrader, AvaTradeGO, AvaOptions and DupliTrade (we used its web platform and iPhone app)
  • Broad multi-asset range including bonds, options and futures, according to AvaTrade's instrument pages
  • A fast payout in our test: AED 399.75 reached our UAE bank about three hours after the withdrawal request, the same day
  • EUR/USD showed 0.8 pips on every reading on our live account, with no commission
  • The order ticket shows spread, margin, leverage and the cash loss at your stop before you confirm

Cons

  • All shares and ETFs are CFDs: no ownership, dividends or voting rights, and losses can exceed your deposit
  • Crypto excluded on Islamic accounts, per earlier AvaTrade material we did not re-check
  • $50 inactivity fee after every three months of non-use, plus a $100 annual administration fee after 12 months, per AvaTrade's fee page
  • Spread-only pricing, no raw ECN spreads
  • UAE licence does not cover custody or asset management
  • No AED base currency offered when we began adding a web-platform account; our account was held in US dollars
  • Our account's ticket showed 1:400 leverage, with no professional classification visible
  • AvaTrade says accounts with open positions cannot request a withdrawal in a Friday-to-Monday window, and that payouts return to the original payment method where possible

How we tested AvaTrade

We tested on a live US-dollar MetaTrader 4 account we opened a while before this review. We didn't time the opening or verification, and we have no screenshots of it. On Wednesday 26 August 2026 we sent AED 400 from Wio by local transfer to the AED bank details in AvaTrade's client area. AvaTrade credited $108.93 the next day. On Thursday 27 August we opened and closed a 0.01-lot EUR/USD trade on the web platform, then withdrew the full $108.85 by bank transfer. AED 399.75 reached our Wio account the same day. On Friday 28 August we went through the iPhone app on the same account. On 15 September 2026 we read Ava Trade Middle East Limited's entry on the ADGM register and the FSRA notice linked from it. We also searched the UAE Capital Market Authority's register, which returned no AvaTrade company. What we didn't do: see a client agreement (AvaTrade's live pages returned Cloudflare 403 to us), fund by card, e-wallet or crypto, open an Islamic account, use MT4 or MT5 themselves, try AvaProtect or the signals, or contact support. It was one deposit, one trade and one withdrawal. Where a fact is AvaTrade's claim rather than our observation, we say so.

Safety, regulation & UAE legal entity

3.8
Safety / 5

Ava Trade Middle East Limited is Active on the ADGM register under FSP 190018, dated 06 February 2020. It holds two permissions: "Dealing in Investments as Principal (Matched)" and "Arranging Deals in Investments". Custody and asset management aren't among them.

The register also attaches conditions on OTC derivatives offered to retail clients, which it doesn't publish. In June 2022 the FSRA penalised the company AED 119,000 for breaching the Common Reporting Standard Regulations.

Which company holds your account. The evidence points two ways.

For the ADGM company: our AED deposit went to an Ajman Bank account named "AVA TRADE MIDDLE EAST LTD CLIENTS ACCOUNT BV", and our payout came from a payer named Ava Trade Middle East Limited.

Against it: AvaTrade's emails to the account name AvaTrade Ltd, regulated by the British Virgin Islands FSC (SIBA/L/13/1049), and carry a copyright line for a third company, AVA Trade Markets Ltd. AVA Trade Markets Ltd is also the beneficiary on the default J.P. Morgan (Dublin) wire tab in our account. And this account's own approval email, from March 2024, calls AvaTrade Markets Ltd an Irish company under Central Bank of Ireland licence C53877, a number AvaTrade's own footer gives to AVA Trade EU Ltd.

AvaTrade publishes terms for both the ADGM and BVI companies and decides which one you're onboarded under. We saw no client agreement, so we can't say which company contracts with a UAE client. Check the company named in yours.

Protection. A bank account named as a clients account isn't proof of how client money is segregated, and we haven't verified that. There's no ADGM investor-compensation scheme.

UAE legal entity: Ava Trade Middle East Ltd. Ava Trade Middle East Ltd (FSRA, ADGM, FSP 190018) was named on both legs of our dirham money, but AvaTrade's emails named a BVI company and we saw no client agreement, so the contracting company isn't confirmed. It isn't on the UAE CMA register (searched 15 September 2026). All equities are CFDs, so no ADX or DFM shares are held.

Opening / 5

We opened our AvaTrade account a while before this review and didn't record the process, so we can't give you a time or show you the screens. The account had first been funded in 2024.

What we did see recently: the sign-up form asks only for an email, a password and a country of residence, with Google, Facebook and Apple sign-in. Creating an account also signs you up to AvaTrade's marketing emails.

Inside the client area, the "Add A New Account" form offers real and demo accounts. For a real web-platform account, the base currencies were USD, EUR, GBP and CHF, with no AED.

The wire minimum is $100, from AvaTrade's wire page. The $100 card minimum and the $100,000 demo balance are AvaTrade's figures; we didn't check them.

We funded in dirhams and withdrew in dirhams, with no fee either way.

Where the money goes. AvaTrade's client area has an Online Payments tab (card, Google Pay, Skrill, Neteller and UMoney for crypto, plus Apple Pay in the iPhone app) and a wire-transfer tab listing J.P. Morgan, Ajman Bank, NatWest and Standard Chartered.

The Ajman Bank tab gives AED details for "AVA TRADE MIDDLE EAST LTD CLIENTS ACCOUNT BV" and a $100 wire minimum.

Deposit. On Wednesday 26 August 2026 we sent AED 400 there from Wio, with no transfer fee. AvaTrade confirmed $108.93 by email and WhatsApp the next day, about 19 hours after the money left our bank. That's the 3.6725 peg with nothing deducted. Our account had been funded before, so a first-deposit minimum may not have applied.

Withdrawal. On Thursday 27 August we asked for the full $108.85. AvaTrade asked for a reason, offered bank, Skrill and Neteller, and showed no fee. It marked the withdrawal processed about two hours later, and AED 399.75 reached our Wio account about three hours after we asked.

AvaTrade's own stated times are longer: up to one business day for e-wallets, five for cards and ten for wires. That's one deposit and one withdrawal, not a service level.

AvaTrade charges through the spread, with no forex commission, and that's what we paid.

EUR/USD. All nine quotes we captured showed 0.8 pips: five on the web platform on Thursday 27 August 2026, early in the London session, and four in the app on Friday 28 August, in the Asian session. AvaTrade's published table puts GBP/USD at 1.2, USD/JPY at 1.3 and AUD/USD at 0.9.

Our trade. A 0.01-lot EUR/USD trade opened at 1.16532 and closed about a minute later at 1.16524, a $0.08 loss, with no commission or swap. That matches a 0.8-pip spread on 1,000 euros, though one trade can't separate spread from price movement.

Moving money cost nothing we could see: both legs converted at the 3.6725 peg.

Watch for. Inactivity fees: $50 after three months without trading and every three months after, plus $100 a year after 12 months. AvaProtect, the paid loss cover on the ticket, was quoted at $0.45 for one hour on 0.01 lot; we didn't buy it.

Dirhams worked both ways through local bank accounts, at the peg, with no fee. The account itself was in US dollars; AED isn't offered as a base currency.

The ADGM company was named on both legs of our money, but the contracting company isn't confirmed (see the safety section). AvaTrade isn't on the UAE CMA register.

The app's UAE support sheet lists arabiccs@avatrade.com and a +971 number, which we didn't test. There's a swap-free account, which we didn't request. And there's no way to own ADX or DFM shares: everything is a CFD.

Customer support

We didn't contact AvaTrade's support. The app's UAE support sheet lists chat, WhatsApp, arabiccs@avatrade.com and +(971) 458-646-11. AvaTrade confirmed our deposit by WhatsApp from a verified business account.

The email address suggests an Arabic desk, but hours, response times and the quality of Arabic support are untested.

Research & education

AvaTrade's Education Centre is better organised than most. Content filters by type and by level, beginner, intermediate and advanced, with a search box over the top, and the shelves carry counts: 53 items under Trading for Beginners alone. In the app a separate Tutorials screen holds three videos on setup, verification and funding, which is onboarding rather than trading instruction, and the Discovery menu adds a research and signals area.

We have not worked through any of it. This describes how much there is and how it is sorted, not whether it is any good, and research and education stays unscored.

Verdict

AvaTrade suits UAE residents who want a forex and CFD broker that takes and returns dirhams through local bank accounts. In our test that worked well: deposit credited the next day, payout the same day, both at the peg with no fee, and a EUR/USD trade at the 0.8-pip spread the ticket showed.

Before you sign up, check two things. Which company your client agreement names, since AvaTrade's emails named a BVI company. And the leverage set on your account: ours showed 1:400.

It's the wrong choice for owning stocks or ETFs: eToro or Interactive Brokers fit that better. If you want an Islamic account, note it's swap-free for up to five days, not indefinitely, and not certified.

Recent news

  • Poland branch office to close

AvaTrade is closing its Polish office almost six years after opening it, saying Polish clients will be served through its international operations without naming the company. Nothing changes for a UAE client, but it is another case of AvaTrade not saying which company takes over, the same question our review raises about UAE accounts.

    Finance Magnates
  • A controlling stake changes hands

Israeli press reported that a group led by Zvika Barinboim would buy a controlling 50% of AvaTrade and inject new capital, valuing the firm at roughly $400 to 500 million. AvaTrade is privately held, so ownership news like this is one of the few windows into the business behind the ADGM company.

Frequently asked questions

Is AvaTrade regulated in the UAE?
Yes. Ava Trade Middle East Limited is Active on the ADGM register under FSP 190018, regulated by the FSRA. It was named on our dirham deposit and withdrawal. AvaTrade's emails named a BVI company, though, so check which company your client agreement names.
Does AvaTrade offer an Islamic account?
Yes, swap-free, but only for up to five days, per AvaTrade's page, and swap-free isn't the same as Sharia-certified. Earlier AvaTrade material says crypto is excluded and a charge applies after the grace period; we didn't re-check either or open an Islamic account.
Can I trade crypto on an AvaTrade Islamic account?
Earlier AvaTrade material says no. The Islamic account page we captured didn't show that exclusion, and we didn't test it.
Are my funds protected as a UAE client?
We found no ADGM retail investor-compensation scheme, so do not assume any compensation cover applies. We have not verified how client money is segregated: the UAE bank account our deposit went to is named as a clients account, but an account name is not evidence of the arrangement.
Do I own the shares I buy with AvaTrade?
No. All equities and ETFs are offered as CFDs, so you take price exposure without owning the underlying asset.
Can I deposit and withdraw in AED with AvaTrade?
In our test, yes, into and out of a US-dollar account. AvaTrade's client area lists AED bank details at Ajman Bank, and our AED 400 local transfer from a UAE bank was credited as $108.93 the next day. Our $108.85 withdrawal was recorded by AvaTrade as AED 399.752 and arrived in the same UAE bank as AED 399.75. Both conversions were at the 3.6725 peg, with no fee on either leg. AED was not offered as a base currency when we began adding a web-platform account, and AvaTrade warns that deposits in another currency "may result in charges for conversion to the account's currency", so do not assume every route converts at the peg.
How long does an AvaTrade withdrawal take?
Ours took about three hours. We asked for $108.85 on Thursday 27 August 2026, AvaTrade marked it processed about two hours later, and AED 399.75 reached our Wio account an hour after that. AvaTrade's stated times are longer: up to one business day for e-wallets, five for cards and ten for wires. Accounts with open positions can't request a withdrawal from Friday to Monday.
Which AvaTrade company holds my account as a UAE resident?
Most likely Ava Trade Middle East Ltd (FSRA, ADGM, FSP 190018): our AED deposit went to its clients account at Ajman Bank, and our payout came from it. But AvaTrade's emails named AvaTrade Ltd, regulated in the British Virgin Islands, and our default wire tab named AVA Trade Markets Ltd. We saw no client agreement, so check the company named in yours before you deposit.
What spread did you actually pay on AvaTrade?
Every EUR/USD quote we captured on our live account showed 0.8 pips: five on the web platform on Thursday 27 August 2026 in the first half hour of the London session, and four in the iPhone app on Friday 28 August in the Asian session. Our 0.01-lot EUR/USD trade opened at 1.16532 and closed about a minute later at 1.16524, a $0.08 loss, with commission and swaps at $0.00. That loss equals a 0.8-pip spread on 1,000 euros, but one trade cannot separate spread from price movement, and two short windows are a sample, not a spread study.
What is AvaTrade's minimum deposit?
$100 by bank wire, per the wire page in our client area. The $100 card minimum is AvaTrade's figure; we didn't check it. Our AED 400 transfer, about $109, was accepted, but our account had been funded before, so a first-deposit minimum may not have applied.
How much leverage does AvaTrade offer UAE clients?
The EUR/USD ticket on our live account showed 1:400, with $2.91 of margin on a 0.01-lot position, and AvaTrade's public forex table showed 400:1 on every pair visible in our capture. We saw no professional-client classification on the account. The ADGM register attaches unpublished conditions to AvaTrade's permission concerning OTC derivatives offered to retail clients, so we cannot say whether 1:400 is what a UAE retail client of the ADGM company should expect.
Does AvaTrade charge an inactivity fee?
Yes, and the charges stack. AvaTrade's fee page says an account may be charged $50 (or €50 or £50) after three consecutive months of non-use "and every successive Inactivity Period", and a separate annual administration fee of $100 (or €100 or £100) after 12 consecutive months of non-use, both unless prohibited by law and both deducted from the account. If you stop trading, withdraw the balance.
