Sarwa is licensed by the FSRA in Abu Dhabi (ADGM). A UAE-based app for owning US shares and ETFs, or for managed portfolios. Designed for long-term investing.

Sarwa is a UAE investing app licensed by the FSRA in Abu Dhabi Global Market. It has three products: Sarwa Trade for picking your own stocks and ETFs, Sarwa Invest for managed portfolios, and Sarwa Save for cash.
This review is based on a real Sarwa Trade account. We opened it, funded it from a UAE bank, traded, withdrew, and checked a day later that the iOS app matched the web account.

carries 23%, and the other 7 categories share the remaining 77% equally. How we score

Our expert verdict
Sarwa did the three things that matter most quickly and in plain view. Our 200 AED transfer from a UAE bank landed in five seconds. The order ticket showed the exact fee and total before we confirmed. The full withdrawal came back in dirhams about 46 hours after a Saturday request, inside Sarwa's stated window.
The weak spots are in the small print. Your balance is held in dollars, and conversion cost us about 0.27% going in and 0.23% coming out, a rate Sarwa doesn't publish. Your shares sit with Alpaca Securities in the US, so any protection is American, not UAE. And the ADGM register doesn't confirm Sarwa's claim that it can hold client money. We haven't tested support or education yet, so neither is scored.
What to watch out for
Balances are held in US dollars. AED transfers in and out carry no fee line, but the money is converted both ways and Sarwa does not publish the rate. In our test that cost about 0.27% going in and 0.23% coming out, so do not assume it is zero.
Sarwa Invest charges a tiered annual management fee with a $7 monthly minimum. On a $1,000 portfolio that minimum alone is roughly 8.4% a year.
Securities bought through Sarwa Trade are held in the United States at Alpaca Securities LLC. The protection behind them is SIPC, an American scheme covering the failure of the custodian, not a UAE or ADGM scheme, and it does not cover market losses.
US-listed assets only. There is no direct DFM or ADX ownership, US-domiciled ETFs carry 30% dividend withholding, and non-US persons can face US estate-tax exposure above $60,000 in US assets.
Sarwa has been penalised by both UAE regulators. The FSRA has taken four actions against the ADGM entity since 2022: three under the Common Reporting Standard and FATCA regulations, and one on 21 May 2024 fining it USD 122,500 for offering securities in its own parent company without an approved prospectus. In a coordinated action over the same conduct, the DFSA fined the DIFC sister company Sarwa Digital Wealth Limited USD 191,100, the larger of the two penalties.

No UAE or ADGM compensation scheme. Sarwa Trade securities are custodied in the United States at Alpaca Securities LLC, where SIPC covers up to $500,000 including $250,000 cash, plus excess SIPC via Lloyd's of London. That covers the custodian failing, not market losses, and it is a US scheme rather than a UAE one.

Pros
A genuine UAE firm: onboarding is by an ADGM entity on the FSRA register, FSP 190037, not by an offshore company
Real ownership of US stocks and ETFs, with fractional dealing, rather than CFDs
Free local AED bank transfers in, with no deposit or withdrawal fee
No account opening, closing, custody or inactivity fees
Listed options at $4 a contract (Sarwa's price, after eligibility approval), rare among platforms serving UAE retail investors
Managed portfolios, self-directed trading, crypto and a cash account in one app
Arabic site and help centre, with support listed on a UAE WhatsApp line (not tested)
A Sharia-screened Halal portfolio option in Invest
Cons
Balances are held in US dollars, and the conversion cost on AED deposits and withdrawals is not published as a rate
Sarwa Invest's $7 monthly minimum fee is punishing on a small portfolio
No investor compensation scheme in the UAE: the only cover is US SIPC through the American custodian
No direct DFM or ADX ownership, and US-domiciled ETFs carry 30% dividend withholding
Penalised by both UAE regulators over the same 2023 share offer: USD 122,500 by the FSRA and USD 191,100 by the DFSA, on 21 May 2024
No MetaTrader and no desktop terminal: the web platform and app are all there is
Support is weekday office hours in Dubai, closing before the US session opens
How we tested Sarwa
We opened a Sarwa Trade account from scratch on 26 August 2026, working through the full suitability questionnaire, identity verification via Onfido (passport or Emirates ID plus a desktop-to-mobile handoff), proof of address, tax residency and UAE visa-status questions. The account was confirmed ready for funding 36 minutes after the application was submitted, inside Sarwa's own stated review window. We funded it with a 200 AED instant transfer from a UAE bank over Sarwa's open banking rail, watched it convert to $54.31 and post to the account, bought $25 of Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (VOO), sold the same position 11 minutes later, and initiated a full withdrawal of the resulting $52.32 balance on 29 August, which landed back in the same bank as 191.70 AED on 31 August. A day after funding we repeated the same checks on the Sarwa iOS app, version 8.0.2, and confirmed the balance and transaction history matched the web account exactly. What we did not do: we did not place a live options trade, did not place a crypto order, although the app showed a live, priced Bitcoin ticket rather than a coming-soon panel, did not test customer support response times beyond noting which channels exist, and did not evaluate the depth of the Learn material.
Sarwa Trade is offered in the UAE by Sarwa Digital Wealth (Capital) Limited, licensed by the FSRA in Abu Dhabi Global Market under FSP 190037.
What the register confirms. Three activities: Managing Assets, Advising, and Arranging Deals. It does not list Dealing in Investments or Providing Custody. Sarwa's account-approval email says it also holds a Category 3C licence with endorsements to hold client money. ADGM doesn't publish endorsements, so we couldn't check that on the register (20 August 2026). Sarwa repeats the claim consistently, but it is still Sarwa's claim.
Where your shares sit. With Alpaca Securities LLC in the United States, which executes and holds Sarwa Trade positions. SIPC covers up to $500,000, including $250,000 in cash, if Alpaca fails; it doesn't cover market losses. There is no UAE compensation scheme, for Sarwa or any other broker on this site.
Cash. An optional FDIC sweep can move uninvested dollars into insured US banks, up to $1,000,000. It's a US scheme for cash, and it was off by default on our account.
Regulatory record. The FSRA has penalised Sarwa four times since 2022. Three were for tax-reporting failures under CRS and FATCA, including 137 accounts reported with inaccurate tax numbers (January 2024). The fourth, on 21 May 2024, was a USD 122,500 fine for offering shares in its own parent company without an approved prospectus.
The same day, the DFSA fined the group's DIFC company USD 191,100 over the same offer, which had reached about 100,000 users. That DIFC licence was withdrawn on 14 June 2024, and only the ADGM company takes clients now.

Regulatory actions on record
FSRA (ADGM), Sarwa Digital Wealth (Capital) Limited. Financial penalty for contraventions of the Common Reporting Standard Regulations and the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Regulations requirements. Sarwa was one of 23 entities penalised in the same exercise, which the FSRA announced on 26 May 2025 with total penalties of AED 610,000; the FSRA did not publish a per-entity split.
FSRA (ADGM), Sarwa Digital Wealth (Capital) Limited. Fined for making an Offer of Securities in ADGM without an Approved Prospectus. In and around April and May 2023 Sarwa offered its clients and registered app users the opportunity to invest in shares of its parent entity without providing an approved prospectus; 144 investors subscribed roughly USD 2.1 million. The FSRA also imposed a Requirement that Sarwa commission an independent review of its governance arrangements, and reduced the penalty for early settlement after Sarwa reversed every subscription. Penalty: USD 122,500 (AED 449,881).
DFSA (DIFC), Sarwa Digital Wealth Limited (DIFC). Fined for making an Offer of Securities to the Public in or from the DIFC without an Approved Prospectus, in breach of the Markets Law. The same April-May 2023 offer of parent-company shares that drew the ADGM penalty: an initial email reached roughly 100,000 users, over 150 investors committed about USD 2 million. The DFSA ran the investigation in coordination with the FSRA, including joint interviews and shared evidence. The penalty was reduced from USD 390,000 (AED 1,432,275) for mitigation and early settlement. Penalty: USD 191,100 (AED 701,815), reduced from USD 390,000.
FSRA (ADGM), Sarwa Digital Wealth (Capital) Limited. Financial penalty for contravention of the Common Reporting Standard Regulations 2017: the tax identification numbers for 137 reportable accounts were not accurately reported, so the CRS return was not complete or accurate.

Opening is fully online, but it's a long questionnaire, not a quick form. Expect questions on income and its source, net worth, employment, citizenship, tax residency and your UAE visa status.
Then comes ID verification through Onfido (the desktop-to-phone handoff expires after an hour) and proof of address. At the end you accept the client agreement, an Alpaca crypto agreement and a W-8BEN.
Use UAE PASS if you have it. It's offered on the first screen, confirms residency instantly and skips the proof-of-address upload.

Deposit. We sent 200 AED from a UAE bank through Sarwa's open banking rail, run by Lean Technologies. It arrived in five seconds, against the app's estimate of five minutes to a day.
It became $54.31, an implied rate of about 3.68 against the 3.6725 peg: roughly 0.27%, with no fee line shown. Lean's consent screen says it operates in the UAE under an in-principle approval from the Central Bank, as a pilot.
The bank rail is free. Express "Instant Funding" costs 0.99% (capped at AED 2,000 on our account, scaled to account size), and card fees aren't shown until you add a card.
Withdrawal. Free, but with some friction. You must give a reason, and choosing "Portfolio performance" brought up a screen arguing against leaving.
We asked for the full $52.32 on Saturday 29 August. It reached our bank on Monday 31 August, about 46 hours later and inside Sarwa's 1 to 2 business day window, as 191.70 AED from Sarwa's account at Emirates NBD. That's about 0.23% below the peg, with no withdrawal fee.
The round trip. 200 AED in, 191.70 AED back. Of the 8.30 AED lost, about 7.29 AED was the test trade (mostly the $1 fee each way), about 1 AED was conversion, and nothing went on bank or withdrawal fees. That's one data point each way, not a guaranteed rate.

That $1 is about 4% of a $25 trade. Sarwa's schedule charges $1 or 0.25% of the trade, whichever is greater, so the percentage only takes over on orders above $400. We haven't tested an order that size yet.
Sarwa Invest (not tested) charges an annual management fee from 0.85% under $100,000 down to 0.4% at $5,000,000 and above, with a $7 monthly minimum at the entry tier.

The fee is itemised before you confirm, not buried afterward: a real $25 order carried a flat $1.00 fee, 4% of the order at this size.Captured 26 August 2026
The full order menu: market, limit, stop, recurring Auto Trade, and dollar orders from $1. What is missing matters too: no trailing stop, no stop-limit.Captured 26 August 2026
$54.31 minus $26.00 leaves $28.31, exactly what buying power now reads. The commission comes straight out of cash at execution, with no warning first.Captured 26 August 2026
To Sarwa's credit the $1.00 fee is on the ticket before you confirm. The caveat is scale: $1 against $25.34 is about 4% going out.Captured 26 August 2026
The complete round trip. The price rose 40 cents, and the account still came back $1.99 lighter: $1 in, $1 out, 8% on a $25 trade.Captured 26 August 2026

Web & desktop platform
We placed every trade on the web, even though Sarwa is often described as app-only. The order menu has five types: buy in shares, buy in dollars, recurring Auto Trade, limit and stop, with fractional orders from $1.
The order ticket is the best part. It shows the estimated price, shares, buying power, the exact fee and the total cost before you confirm, not after.

Mobile app
The iOS app (version 8.0.2) matched the web account to the cent a day after funding, and switches between English and Arabic.
Security is basic. There are toggles for Face or Touch ID and two-factor login, but two-factor was off on the web and on in the app for the same account, so check both. An emailed code, valid for five minutes, was required at every login from 27 August. There's no device list, no login alerts and no withdrawal whitelist.
The home screen pushes Sarwa Invest and Sarwa Save, and advertises a "Black Swan Protection" fund designed with Nassim Taleb. Sarwa's pricing page marks it as coming soon, so we couldn't test it.

This is where Sarwa is most clearly built for the UAE.
UAE PASS on the first screen verifies residency instantly and skips the proof-of-address upload.
Dirhams both ways. Our AED deposit landed in five seconds, and our withdrawal came back in dirhams from Sarwa's account at Emirates NBD, about 46 hours after a Saturday request.
A Shariah filter, not an Islamic account. Sarwa's Shariah Compliance feature is an opt-in badge on individual holdings, not a swap-free account. Sarwa says it doesn't hold an FSRA Islamic Window endorsement.
As with every broker on this site, there's no UAE compensation scheme.

Customer support
A Help Center and a WhatsApp contact channel are both listed inside the app.
The help centre is organised by product rather than by problem: nine categories covering Invest, Trade, Save, Options Trading, Crypto, pricing, deposits and withdrawals, account and security, and Black Swan Protection. Articles carry visible dates, which is more than most brokers manage, and the most recent we saw were from September 2026. Written contact runs through a ticket form asking for your email, the platform, an inquiry category, a subject and a description, with attachments allowed. Sarwa publishes hello@sarwa.co and a WhatsApp number alongside it.
What Sarwa does not publish is a target. The form promises a reply "as soon as possible" and no stated turnaround appears anywhere on the page, where Interactive Brokers commits to 48 hours and XTB to 30 days on a formal complaint. We did not message either channel, so support stays unscored here rather than guessed at.

Verdict
Sarwa is strong where it's hardest to fake. Dirhams landed in five seconds, the order ticket showed the fee before we confirmed, and our withdrawal came back in dirhams on the first working day. UAE PASS cuts a document upload rather than just adding a logo.
The costs are real, though. A $1 flat fee hurts small trades, and dollar conversion cost us about 0.27% in and 0.23% out, a rate Sarwa doesn't publish. Your shares sit with Alpaca in the US, not in the UAE. We'll score support and education once we've tested them.
Recent news
First UAE-founded fintech to pass $1 billion in client assets
Sarwa said it had crossed $1 billion in client assets. By its own definition the figure covers holdings and cash across Invest, Trade, Crypto and Save at fair value, and it is a measure of scale, not protection: Sarwa Trade holdings are still custodied at Alpaca Securities in the United States, as our review sets out.
Yes. Sarwa Trade is run in the UAE by Sarwa Digital Wealth (Capital) Limited, licensed by the FSRA in Abu Dhabi Global Market under FSP 190037. The register lists Managing Assets, Advising and Arranging Deals, but not Dealing or Providing Custody. Sarwa's claim that it can hold client money is its own; the register doesn't confirm it.
How fast can I fund a Sarwa account from a UAE bank?
In our test, an instant AED transfer from a UAE bank through Sarwa's open banking rail, powered by Lean Technologies, was credited in 5 seconds, well inside Sarwa's own stated estimate of 5 minutes to 1 day for that method. Card funding is also instant but carries a fee the app does not total until you add a card; a standard wire transfer is free but can take up to 2 days.
How long does a Sarwa withdrawal take, and what does it cost?
In our test, a full $52.32 withdrawal requested on a Saturday arrived on Monday, about 46 hours later, as 191.70 AED. There was no withdrawal fee; the only cost was about 0.23% in the conversion rate, which Sarwa doesn't publish. You must give a reason, and you may see a screen asking you to stay.
How much does it cost to buy a stock or ETF on Sarwa?
Our $25 VOO order cost a flat $1.00, shown before we confirmed: about 4% one way. Sarwa charges $1 or 0.25% of the trade, whichever is greater, so the percentage only applies above $400. We haven't tested an order that size.
Does linking UAE PASS actually save you anything?
Yes, and it is the most concrete UAE-specific benefit in the flow. The sign-up screen states that linking UAE PASS verifies your UAE residency instantly and removes the need to upload a proof of address document, which is otherwise a separate step requiring a utility bill or bank statement dated within the last three months.
Is Sarwa's Shariah compliance feature the same as a swap-free Islamic account?
No, and Sarwa is explicit about this. The in-app Shariah Compliance toggle is an asset-level badge that flags individual holdings as aligning with Islamic principles; it is not an account-level swap-free structure like the Islamic accounts offered by CFD and forex brokers. Sarwa's own compliance disclosures state plainly that it does not hold an FSRA Islamic Window endorsement.
Does Sarwa offer crypto trading?
Yes, though we have not bought any. The funded account reached a live Bitcoin ticket on 23 September at $87,468.13, buyable from $10 in fractional units. We placed no order, so the fill and the spread are untested, and Sarwa does not publish the spread.
Is my cash protected if Sarwa or its custodian runs into trouble?
There's no UAE compensation scheme. Sarwa Trade securities are held at Alpaca Securities LLC in the US, where SIPC cover applies. An optional FDIC sweep can put uninvested dollars in insured US banks, up to $1,000,000. Both are US schemes, and neither covers investment losses.
