eToro platform overview

eToro is one of the most recognisable trading platforms in the world, and it's fully available to UAE residents through its ADGM-regulated entity. It built its name on social and copy trading (letting you automatically mirror the trades of experienced investors) and on low-cost investing, though for UAE residents commission-free applies to ETFs, with real shares charged at $1 per trade, $2 on ADX and DFM.

Our expert verdict

For UAE beginners who value simplicity, copy trading and commission-free ETFs, eToro is one of the easiest platforms to recommend. Just go in clear-eyed about the costs: because your account is held in USD, every AED deposit is converted, and the $5 withdrawal fee adds up if you move money frequently.

What to watch out for

  • USD-denominated accounts mean AED deposits are converted, adding a conversion cost.
  • A $5 withdrawal fee and $10/month inactivity fee after 12 months of no login.
  • Forex and CFD spreads are higher than ECN-style brokers like Pepperstone.

How we tested eToro

We opened and funded a real eToro account as a UAE resident and worked through the platform first-hand: signup with UAE PASS, the dashboard, CopyTrader, watchlists and Smart Portfolios, captured in the screenshots throughout this review. Regulatory standing was verified against the ADGM public register, and fees against eToro's own published schedules. Where a figure comes from eToro's documentation rather than our own measurement, we say so beside it. Live spread measurement and a completed withdrawal are part of our next testing round and are not claimed here.

Safety, regulation & UAE legal entity

4.6
Safety / 5

eToro serves UAE residents through eToro (ME) Ltd, which is licensed by the FSRA in Abu Dhabi Global Market under FSP 220073. The UAE entity can arrange and execute investments, provide custody and manage assets, which is why eToro can hold client investments and offer products such as Smart Portfolios locally. Client funds are segregated and negative balance protection is provided, but UAE customers are not covered by the UK FSCS or EU investor compensation schemes.

Safety signals

Segregated client funds Split by product: cash and securities are client money in a pooled account (FSRA COB 14.2), but for a retail client the margin on an open CFD stops being client money, is not segregated, and leaves you ranking as a general creditor if eToro fails (ME terms cl. 15.2) Yes
Negative balance protection Yes

UAE legal entity: eToro (ME) Ltd. eToro serves UAE clients through eToro (ME) Ltd, licensed by the FSRA in ADGM (FSP 220073) since 16 October 2023 and registered at Al Sila Tower on Al Maryah Island, Abu Dhabi. Its permissions cover five activities: dealing as principal (matched), arranging deals, arranging custody, managing assets and providing custody, with virtual assets inside that scope. That matters: it is why eToro can legally hold your assets and run Smart Portfolios under its own UAE licence, where a dealing-and-arranging-only licence cannot. Deposits can be made in AED via card, but accounts are held in USD so a conversion fee applies.

Funding / 5

Funding eToro from the UAE requires a little more attention than the headline “AED supported” suggests. Your account itself is held in USD, so AED deposits are converted before they reach your balance. The cheapest direct AED option we found is instant bank transfer through Lean at roughly 0.75% conversion, while card and bank-wire conversion can be considerably more expensive. Withdrawals carry a $5 fee unless your eToro Club tier waives it, with eToro stating that requests are normally processed within two business days.

4.5
Assets / 5

eToro offers a broad range of markets, including thousands of stocks, hundreds of ETFs, cryptocurrencies, forex, indices and commodities. One important distinction is that unleveraged long positions in supported stocks, ETFs and crypto can represent genuine ownership, while leveraged or short positions are CFDs. UAE clients also get access to ADX and DFM-listed shares through eToro's local entity, something relatively few international platforms offer. It is less suitable if you need bonds, mutual funds, listed options or futures.

Fees and spreads

3.9
Fees / 5

eToro is inexpensive for ETF investing, but it is not completely commission-free for UAE clients. ETFs carry no eToro commission, while real shares cost $1 per trade, or $2 on ADX and DFM. CFD and forex trading is spread-based, crypto carries a 1% buy/sell fee, and there is a $5 withdrawal charge plus a $10 monthly inactivity fee after 12 months without logging in. The bigger UAE-specific cost to watch is currency conversion: accounts are held in USD, so depositing AED means converting your money first.

The pip figures in the table above come from eToro's main fees page, which quotes CFD costs a different way. We have not reconciled the two: on EUR/USD at about 1.08, 0.005% works out near 0.5 pips against the 1.0 pips quoted on the fees page, so treat each figure as belonging to the schedule it appears on rather than as two views of one number. eToro's web platform is designed around simplicity, social investing and copy trading rather than professional-grade execution tools. eToro has made a stronger localisation effort in the UAE than many global brokers. UAE clients are held under its ADGM-regulated eToro (ME) Ltd entity, it has an Abu Dhabi presence, supports Arabic, accepts AED deposits and provides access to both ADX and DFM-listed shares. There is also a swap-free Islamic account option. The main local drawback is that the account itself remains USD-denominated, so AED funding introduces a currency-conversion cost.

eToro provides live chat and ticket-based support, with Arabic available, but its UAE support setup is less comprehensive than some locally focused competitors. Its help page offers exactly two routes, a chat and a ticket, and no phone number at all. The ticket form asks for a name, an email and a query type, and notes that all communications are recorded; instrument-specific options only appear once you are logged in.

Dedicated account managers are reserved for eToro Club, which is tiered on account balance: Silver from $5,000, Gold $10,000, Platinum $25,000 or $4.99 a month, Platinum+ $50,000 or $14.99, and Diamond $250,000. For most users chat and tickets should be enough, but traders who want a phone line or a named contact should read those thresholds before assuming either is available to them.

Research & education

Research / 5

eToro runs its education under a separate Academy site, organised into Guides, Courses, Tutorials, Digest & Invest, Loud Investing and an Experts section, with a ten-lesson course aimed at people who have never invested. The guides index spans beginner to advanced across written articles and video, filtered by Essentials, Most Popular, Advanced, Videos and Crypto.

Two caveats on what that tells you. We captured the Academy logged out on 30 September 2026, so this is the public catalogue rather than the research a funded UAE account sees inside the platform. And we have not worked through the material, so nothing here is a judgement on its depth or accuracy.

Recent news

  • eToro to buy US brokerage TradeZero for $231m

Cash plus up to 2.5 million new Class A shares, expected to close in the first half of 2027 subject to regulatory clearance. TradeZero serves active US and Canadian traders and turned over about $80m in the year to June. It does not change what eToro (ME) Ltd offers a UAE client (the entity, permissions and product range here are unaffected), but it is the third acquisition eToro has signed this year.

    Banking Dive
  • Q2 profit up 77% on paper, 16% adjusted, and down on the previous quarter

Net contribution $229m and GAAP net income $53.5m. The 77% headline is flattered by one-off costs a year earlier; on an adjusted basis profit rose 16% to $62.8m, and both measures fell against Q1 (net income by 35%). Funded accounts reached 4.28m, up 18%. Relevant here because eToro's Nasdaq listing and published results are the transparency signal our safety section relies on, and reading past the headline is the point of that signal.

    Finance Magnates
  • Crypto shrinks to 5.5% of eToro's net contribution as trades fall 73%

Crypto revenue fell 30% year-on-year and crypto's share of net contribution dropped from 14% to 5.5%, with crypto trades down 73%. Worth watching for UAE clients specifically: crypto availability is one of the things that distinguishes eToro from several rivals serving this market, and eToro charges 1% to open and close. A shrinking crypto business is not a withdrawal of the product, but it is the line to watch.

Frequently asked questions

Is eToro legal in the UAE?
Yes. UAE residents are served by eToro (ME) Ltd, which holds Financial Services Permission 220073 from the FSRA in ADGM, granted on 16 October 2023 and currently active. You can verify this yourself on the ADGM public register rather than taking our word for it.
Is eToro halal?
eToro is not Sharia-certified, and no independent board has ruled on it. What it offers is a swap-free account that removes overnight interest on leveraged positions. Whether that is sufficient is a question for your own scholar: the interest charge is gone, but the underlying instrument still matters, and many scholars regard leveraged CFDs as impermissible regardless of how the financing is structured.
What is the difference between swap-free and Sharia-compliant?
Swap-free is a fee arrangement; Sharia-compliant is a religious ruling. Removing riba on overnight positions addresses one objection, not all of them. Buying a real, unleveraged share is a different proposition from holding a leveraged CFD on that share, and only the first is uncontroversial. Treat swap-free as a tool, not a certification.
How do I get a swap-free account, and does it cost anything?
It is not available at signup. You open a standard account first, fund it with at least $1,000, then request the upgrade through support. Once active, leveraged positions held overnight attract a fixed administration fee after a seven-day grace period instead of a swap. Real stocks, ETFs and unleveraged crypto are not affected.
What is the cheapest way to fund an eToro account in AED?
Instant bank transfer, at roughly 0.75% conversion, and eToro Club members pay less again: 20% off at Gold and Silver, 40% at Platinum tiers and 80% at Diamond. Card and bank wire both cost around 2.2%, which on a $10,000 deposit is about $220 instead of $75. Converting to USD yourself before depositing avoids eToro's mark-up entirely, at the cost of one extra transfer.
Can UAE clients deposit in AED?
Yes, but the account itself is denominated in USD, so every AED deposit is converted on arrival. That conversion, not the deposit fee, is the real cost: see the funding routes above, which differ by more than tenfold.
How long do withdrawals take, and do they arrive in AED?
Withdrawals leave eToro in USD, so your UAE bank performs the conversion at its own rate. eToro says within 2 business days to process, then up to 5 business days to arrive (eToro's figure; not tested by us), plus a flat $5 fee. That fee is waived at Platinum, Platinum+ and Diamond Club tiers.
Do I actually own the shares I buy?
On unleveraged long positions, yes: eToro buys the underlying share or ETF and holds it for you. Add leverage or go short and you are holding a CFD instead, with price exposure but no ownership. Note that owned assets sit in a pooled omnibus account, so you have beneficial ownership rather than direct registration in your own name.
What is the minimum deposit for UAE clients?
The minimum first deposit for UAE clients is $100, roughly AED 367. The $50 figure sometimes quoted refers to a promotional free asset, not the deposit requirement.
Can I trade UAE-listed shares?
Yes. Through its ADGM-licensed entity, eToro offers ADX and DFM listings alongside global markets, which is uncommon among international platforms. Note that trades on Dubai and Abu Dhabi exchanges carry the $2 commission tier rather than the $1 charged elsewhere.
Does eToro support Arabic?
Yes. The platform interface is available in Arabic, not just the marketing pages: you can switch language from the landing page, as shown in the screenshots above.
Is my money protected as a UAE client?
Client funds are segregated, but there is no investor compensation scheme covering you. The UK FSCS and Cypriot ICF apply only to clients of those entities, and ADGM operates no equivalent retail scheme. eToro being NASDAQ-listed and publishing audited results is a transparency signal, not a compensation guarantee.
